Folk dance increases the health of vulnerable people
Research shows that folk dance with live music and live instruction can increase the mental and physical health of vulnerable young people and adults with mental illness.
ABOUT THE PROJECT: Foot on the floor is finalizing a 2½-year method project – with research by Aalborg University.
At eight schools/homes in North Jutland and Southern Denmark, a total of 195 participants have participated in adjusted folk dance – a special model with six times each place, led by four teams with some of Denmark’s very best folk musicians and dance instructors.
The research is of seldom scope and character in Denmark, with both qualitative and quantitative measurements, including questionnaires, interviews and body sensors. The study shows a significant difference between before and after measurement of mental well-being for the participants from start to finish of the six dance programs.
